Wisdom Teeth Removal in Argüelles, Madrid

Wisdom teeth removal is one of the most common procedures in oral surgery. With local anaesthetic and the right technique, it is a safe process with minimal post-operative discomfort.

When do wisdom teeth need to be removed?

Wisdom teeth or third molars are the last teeth to erupt, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. They do not always cause problems, but in many cases they:

  • Lack the space to erupt correctly and become partially or fully impacted in the bone.
  • Cause pressure on the adjacent teeth.
  • Are difficult to clean and prone to decay.
  • Cause pericoronitis (infection of the tissue around the tooth).

The extraction procedure

  1. Prior radiographic study to assess the position and relationship with nerves.
  2. Local anaesthetic of the area (the procedure is completely painless).
  3. Extraction with an atraumatic technique that preserves the bone and soft tissues.
  4. Closure with stitches when necessary.

For impacted teeth, a small incision in the gum and/or sectioning of the tooth may be needed to make extraction easier.

Post-operative care

The first few days are the most important:

  • Apply cold to the outside (20 min cold, 20 min off).
  • Soft, cold diet for the first few days.
  • Do not smoke or drink alcohol during healing.
  • Take the prescribed medication.

Most patients return to their normal activity within 24–48 hours.
